Starting a Business

As a client of the Ohio SBDC you and your business are our number one priority. We exist solely to help you to start, sustain and grow your small business.
For entrepreneurs we take your business from idea stage to an actual legal entity selling products and services and garnering your first customer.
We guide and assist with determining the viability of your idea, developing your business concept and business plan.

Start-Up Process

A lot of critical decisions must be made when starting a business. The success of your business and your ability to obtain financing now and in the future will depend on the foundation you establish today. To ensure it’s a stable one we’ve created a three-step process.

Step 1

B.A.S.E Workshop

B.A.S.E Workshop:  This two-evening workshop sets the stage for business ownership. Evaluate your initial concept, determine readiness, learn how to identify and target customers, and explore goal setting. Business structure and funding will also be covered by local attorney and banking professionals.

Business Tax Workshop: This one-evening workshop will provide you with an overview of federal and state business taxation rights, requirements, and responsibilities, and is suitable for entrepreneurs in both the pre-venture and startup phases. The Tax Workshop is not required to qualify for BizStart 2.0. Can be attended before or concurrently with BizStart 2.0.

Step 2

BizStart 2.0

This four-week program will walk you through the process of validating your business model. Working with an advisor, you’ll explore entrepreneurship, planning and market research, marketing, sales, business operations, business plans, financing, and legal entities. (This is an invitation only course. Must attend B.A.S.E Workshop to be considered)

Step 3

Meet with an Advisor

After completing steps 1 & 2 you will be assigned to an Ohio SBDC Certified Business Advisor. Your Advisor will coach you through the development, launch and growth of your business. Meetings with Advisors are by appointment only.
