In an effort to support these businesses we have assembled a team of local business experts to guide business owners through the process of recovering and positioning themselves to grow and thrive into the future. The individuals below make up our SBDC Cares Act Consultant team. They bring a diverse skillset and experience in developing and growing small businesses.

Meet the CARES Act Consultants
BParknavy Enterprises, LLC / First Mate Business Services
Barb is serving as Project Specialist for the CARES Act Team, providing administrative, coordination and research services through BParknavy Enterprises, LLC/First Mate Business Services in support of the consulting team. She provided support services to the SBDC while earning her Associates Degree in Business Management from Columbus State Community College where she was awarded the designation of Student Employee of the year in April 2018. She will be completing dual Bachelor Degrees at Franklin University in May 2021 in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship and is preparing to launch two additional artisan craft business ventures in the summer of 2021.

SBSL: An Educational Solutions Provider
SJ is a lifelong Ohioan with boundless appreciation for people, entrepreneurship, liberty, & learning. He has ties to multiple business ventures, starting his own education business, SBSL: An Educational Solutions Provider, in late 2011. Over the next 8+ years, he has been offered a number of opportunities to partner with other founders, including the H7 Network, StartUpSpace, BeeKonnected,and Web Strategy + / Social Media Enthusiasts. SJ specializes in thought leadership, guest blogging, networking, speaking, and soft skills training.
Aventi Enterprises, LLC
Deonna holds a Degree in Business Administration from OSU and is a small business strategist and startup consultant with expertise in business planning, financial management, operations management, event planning and marketing strategy development. She is owner and managing consultant of Aventi Enterprises, LLC, a small business consulting firm in Columbus, OH that offers training and management support for new and emerging small business owners. She received the 2016 Stephanie J. Bevens Award by the Ohio Community Development Corporation Association for her entrepreneurial spirit and strong commitment to small business ownership. Over the last ten years, Deonna has supported the development of small and minority-owned businesses and non-profits in Central Ohio through community projects, entreprenurial training programs and fundraising efforts, including grants, loans and crowdfunding. She has had the opportunity to provide training to over 1500 local entrepreneurs as well as build relationships with corporate stakeholders, community organizations, and government agencies that support the small business community. Deona specializes in business strategy and planning, preparation for financing, government contracting and small business outreach.
Otto Beatty III
OB3 Advisory and Management Ltd & Catapult Leadership Labs
Otto is an award-winning entrepreneur, attorney, business advisor, real estate investor and community leader. Nicknamed the “Go-Giver” by many, he is passionate about helping people and organizations meet their business and personal objectives. Otto is currently the owner of Intelligent Office and Intelligent Assistant of Columbus, which provides over 250 small businesses with a variety of virtual staffing and space solutions. In 2019, he earned the designation of Certified Business Advisor from Kent State University and the Ohio Department of Development and works with organizations such as Ohio Small Business Development Center and Columbus Urban League.
TJ Eveland, Ph.D
SBC Small Business Advising
TJ is an active entrepreneur, finance professor, and published researcher in the fields of entrepreneurship, finance, and equity in higher education. TJ advises businesses himself, and leads a team of small business advisors with specializations including social media marketing, revenue growth, new market entry, customer acquisition, financial analysis, budgeting, QuickBooks training, and healthcare practice management including insurance and billing. He has started, operated, and sold two micro-ventures in the last two years, has an MBA, and enjoys helping others define and reach their goals.
Jim is a software engineer with an electronics background holding an MBA and Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Capital University. Jim created Information and Measurement Engineering systems in his eleven years with Dow Chemical’s Research & Development Center’s Fabricated Products Test Equipment Development Group and served in Tech Service and Product Development for Blown and Cast Films and manufacturing operations for Xerox, Datanetics and TRW Semiconductors in Los Angeles, and Universal Instruments in New York. All of these positions reinforced Jim’s goal of process improvement, which has been his life-long mission. He is currently a business partner with iCare Network LLC, an integrated healthcare technology platform, and has worked as an SBDC consultant since 2014. Jim specializes in product and services operations, helping businesses to transform their operations using Organizational Development and Continuous Improvement Methodologies to achieve their goals.

Ohio SBDC Contract Consultant
Jeanne advises pre-venture, startup, and existing small businesses with strategic planning, marketing, human resources, and financial planning. She is a Certified GrowthWheel Business Advisor. Her experience as a restaurant owner/operator and child care teacher/administrator enables her to bring expertise to businesses in the food service, hospitality, B&B, restaurant, bar, bakery, cottage food, and retail industries and well as health and wellness businesses. She has distinctive expertise in preparing Cash Flow Forecasts and writing business plans.
Erik Lehmann studied Human Development and Family Studies as an undergraduate student and Program Evaluation and Planning as a graduate student at Cornell University. Erik has occupied management and business development positions in the restaurant, pharmaceutical, telecommunications vertices and is currently serving as the VP of Business Development for InSource Pro. In the current business environment, Erik understands the importance of exploring and creating the new normal, so that entrepreneurs can continue to do what they do best: serve their stakeholders! He is excited to serve the CARES Act Team and specializes in offering advisory services for business model validation, data collection and management strategies, and pivoting from bricks and mortar to digital and remote business development.
Rob is a branding and marketing strategist. He works with motivated business owners to identify and connect to their most lucrative customers. When he’s not learning and working with clients, you can find him hanging with my beautiful wife and kids, cooking something delicious, writing a song, or performing with one of several bands he has the privilege to play with.
Samuel F. ‘Sam’ Payne, Sr.
Sam spent 32+ years in the financial industry primary in the disciple of branch banking and small business banking. Before retiring, he had the opportunity to be on the management and executive leadership teams for (3) three different major banking organizations. Over the years, he has been a strong advocate for small businesses. During his banking years he had the opportunity to offer business loans / deposit services to 5,500+ small and medium size businesses. For the past 5 years Sam has assisted numerous businesses navigate through programs such as [SBDC] Small Business Development Centers, Micro-Lenders and banks. His areas of technical assistance expertise are: Assisting businesses in structuring business loans for potential lenders, business plan preparation. Business development, business analysis, strategic planning, business coach, COVID-19 relief, and disaster preparedness / readiness.

Rick Slark is a Certified Business Advisor and founder of Slark Consulting Group. Connie has consulted internationally in designing and implementing workforce development programs in Europe, Australia, North Africa, South America and Kenya. These projects connected new businesses in a geographic area to companies in USA for exporting opportunities. She holds a Masters Degree from OSU in Workforce Development and a Bachelors degree in International Business from Ohio Dominican University. She founded and chairs the Canal Winchester Economic Development Council, an organization that promotes and leads workforce development issues related to growth and expansion of area businesses job opportunities. Through her digital certifications from the University of Florida, she offers expertise in designing and creating value propositions, customer conversions, hypnotic copy for landing pages, content management, customer service delivery systems, and social media management.
Jeff Trickett is a talented systems engineer, passionate about formulating creative solutions for quality-focused organizations. He studied Industrial and Systems Engineering at The Ohio State University, Computer Science at Antioch College, and currently lectures on technology at OSU. Jeff has decades of multidisciplinary experience developing advanced server applications and leading technology teams. His extensive knowledge and varied perspective affords unique insight into what comprises good technical design. Jeff provides technological consultation and strategy support in projects with tech considerations.
Aleri Business Strategies
Ariana is a graduate of Ohio University, holding a Masters in Financial Economics and a BA in Economics with specializations in Latin American Studies, Spanish and German. Born in Mexico City, Ulloa-Olavarrieta immigrated to the United States when she was 5 years old. She has been supporting the small business community as a coach for new and existing entrepreneurs throughout most of her career. Ariana serves as Executive Coach for the LIGHTS Regional Innovation Network at Ohio University, a regional program that provides support to 26 counties in the Appalachian region and previously served as Director of the Ohio SBDC at Columbus State Community College. She additionally served on the boards of the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, Avanza Together, the Community Capital Development Corporation (CCDC), New Directions Career Center, the Hispanic Chamber of Columbus, and ACEnet. With her previous work experience in the financial industry and as a business owner herself, she focuses on helping entrepreneurs work in their business while working on their overall vision. Ariana believes planning for the future while working on the present is key to success. She specializes in confidential business advising, management training and technical assistance.
